Gardai are hunting three men who robbed a Co Louth shop and post office at gunpoint.

The gang members wore high visibility jackets and used a sledgehammer and metal bar to threaten staff at the premises in Clogherhead.

They escaped with a large amount of cash.

The robbery happened at about 3.40pm on May 3 but details have only been made public by Gardai.

The culprits fled in a blue Audi A3 car, partial registration number 00RN which was found on fire at Coast Road, Callystown a short time later.

It is believed they left the area in a silver Skoda, that had been parked at the entrance to the field, and was being driven by a woman with red hair.

Gardai appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to contact them at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200 or to call the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
