Garda injured in ramming incident

A female Garda has been injured after the patrol car she was in was rammed by suspected burglars.

The woman in her 20s had responded to reports of suspicious activity linked to a car in the Cian Lea Estate in Swords, Co Dublin.

A Garda spokesman said that a white Nissan Micra was spotted by officers before it drove at the patrol car and rammed it, injuring the officer.

Two men in their late teens were arrested in the area following searches by Garda units, including the force helicopter, and taken in for questioning to Coolock Garda Station.

The incident took place at about 3.25am this morning.

Gardai said the injured officer suffered a serious head wound and was to undergo surgery in Beaumont Hospital.

The car was later recovered near Talbot Hall, Swords.
