Garda motorcyclist rammed by van

A garda officer has been injured after his motorcycle was rammed by the driver of a stolen van.

The vehicle was being driven at high speed on the Mallow Road when the accident happened around 8am.

The officer was taken to Cork University Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men in their 20s were later arrested.

The van had been reported stolen and was suspected in the involvement in a number of burglaries.

Officers observed it in the Douglas area of the city. The van was then driven at speed through the city centre where it rammed a police van and a number of other vehicles near Merchants Quay.

The police officer was hurt when it was driven onto the Mallow Road. The van was stopped near Blarney and police arrested two men. S tolen property was also recovered from the van.
