A German teenager is in a serious condition after having fallen 25ft off a cliff near the Loop Head Penninsula, Co Clare, on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at 9:30 this morning.

The boy was  rescued the boy from the bottom of the cliff followed by a two-hour operation involving the Kilkee Coastguard Rescue Unit 115, the ambulance service and gardai.

He was winched from the scene by helicopter, and then airlifted to Limerick General hospital, where he is said to be in a stable but serious condition. He suffered fractures to the skull and legs.

The family were visiting the Loop Head Peninsula when the boy slipped and fell 25ft off the cliff at the Bridges of Ross, landing on rocks below.

The alarm was raised by the boy’s father.
