Girl dies after being hit by car

A 16-year-old girl has died after being knocked down in Dublin.

She was hit by a car while trying to cross the road in Stillorgan at about 9.15pm last night.

Gardai said the accident happened on the N11 dual carriageway at Stillorgan, close to the junction with Kilmacud Road.

She was pronounced dead at scene and her body was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where a post mortem will take place today.

The southbound carriageway was closed but has now re-opened. Any witnesses have been asked to contact

Blackrock Garda Station.
