Women were making the 'head' lines within and without the ring on the opening day of the Dublin Horse Show yesterday as fashionable ladies displayed a plethora of magnificent hats at the RDS, and the daughter of a rock star wowed fans with her skills.

Jessica Springsteen, Bruce the Boss's girl, showed the courage of a lion as she galloped to victory in the Anglesea Stakes on Davendy S.

"It was her first 5-Star win," said delighted trainer Laura Kraut, under whose wing the 22-year-old has been honing her skills over the last two years.

Springsteen has been based at the stables of the US Olympian and her London 2012 gold medal winning partner, Great Britain's Nick Skelton, and yesterday showed exactly why she's been chosen to represent the US in today's Aga Khan Cup.

"I've been riding fast since I was in junior jumpers and I knew I could really go for it with my mare. She's so careful and so quick across the fences," said the rider, even though she's only been partnered with Davendy S for two weeks.

"It was my first big step up with her but I knew she could do it, she was flying – we took off pretty far away from that last fence," she said after nearly breaking the sound barrier as she fearlessly galloped through the finish to win.

"I came here seven years ago and always wanted to ride at this show, so this is really exciting," she said.

Now she's is really looking forward to today's Aga Khan.
