Husband held after Irish wife found dead in Netherlands
A man will appear in a Dutch court today in relation to the death of his wife who is an Irish citizen.
Police in the Netherlands confirmed a woman's body was discovered at her home in the city of Den Bosch, also known as 's-Hertogenbosch, in the south of the country.
The discovery of the 64-year-old was made on Monday after police were called to the scene. The Irish woman's husband was at the scene when officers arrived to the house and was subsequently arrested.
He was detained for questioning as part of the investigation into her death which is being treated as suspicious and he is due to appear in court today. It is unclear if he is an Irish citizen. It is not clear how the woman died or what injuries she had sustained.
“The woman’s husband, who was present in the home, was arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation. The arrested man is being arraigned on Thursday, November 12th at the Right Commissioner,” police said in a statement.
The identity of the woman has not been released by the Dutch authorities. The Department of Foreign Affairs last night confirmed it was providing consular assistance to the family of the woman.
Local media reported that the couple had recently sold their home and were planning on moving back to Ireland.
