Irish woman dies in South Africa after yacht capsizes
An Irish woman has died in South Africa after a yacht she was sailing on capsized and broke up.
Rescuers were called to the scene shortly after 4.30am local time following reports of a vessel capsizing.
A survivor raised the alarm after swimming to shore.
A 49-year-old Irish woman and a 61-year-old Scottish man died in the incident.
Another Irish citizen on board the vessel survived.
The 66-year-old man is understood to have been living locally for a number of years.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed they are aware of "the death of an Irish citizen in the Western Cape and consular assistance is being provided."
