Jail threat hangs over Shannon Airport protest TD Mick Wallace
The Irish politician who revealed the Nama payment scandal in Northern Ireland could face jail, it emerged yesterday.
Independent TD Mick Wallace breached security at Shannon Airport in a protest against American military planes.
Wallace and fellow TD Clare Daly were found guilty of entering a restricted zone in July last year in a failed attempt to inspect a US Hercules C-130 and another military plane.
The TDs were fined €2,000 (£1,450) each at Ennis District Court in April and given until the end of July to pay or serve a 30-day jail sentence. It is understood the TDs have been in contact with Garda in Co Clare in recent weeks over the sentence.
