Jobs boost at medical devices firm
A leading medical devices firm is to create 200 jobs at its Irish-based centre of excellence.
Merit Medical Systems, which makes products for use in cardiology, radiology and endoscopy, is to take on the new staff at its 20 million euro facility in Parkmore business park in Galway.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny made the announcement of the plans, which will allow Merit to expand its research and development and double its capacity in the region.
"It is also a significant endorsement of Ireland as a location for investment and highlights the importance of economic stability," he said.
The new staff, a third of whom will be third level graduates, will be taken on over the next five years.
Merit designs, develops, manufactures and markets medical devices around the world used in interventional and diagnostic procedures.
The company's Galway facility was established in 1996 and employs 379 people.
