A kayaker whose body was identified more than a month after it was found on an Isle of Wight beach has been named by police.

The dead man has been identified as 40-year-old Morgan Savage, from Dublin.

His body was discovered on Yaverland beach on September 11 but his identity had baffled Hampshire Police, although the force said on Monday his next-of-kin had finally been located and informed of his death.

Mr Savage was last seen at Brighton Canoes, in Newhaven, East Sussex, at around 4pm on September 8.

The kayak was a yellow and black "blow up" Sevylor Conrad.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "A post-mortem, which was carried out on September 24, was inconclusive. The coroner is awaiting histology results."
