Man (41) in court over violence at horse fair

A 41-year-old man is to appear in court this morning in connection with the violence in the Smithfield horse fair in Dublin on Sunday.

He will be brought before the Courts of Criminal Justice after being arrested under anti-terrorist laws.

Meanwhile, gardai have extended their hunt for suspects involved to Northern Ireland and Britain.

The mothers of two young men brutally injured at the horse fair insisted their sons were attacked solely because of their family name.

The families detailed the personal impact of a long-running bitter Traveller family feud as both father-of-two Johnny McInerney (21) and his friend, talented boxer Wesley McDonagh (17), remain in hospital under 24-hour armed guard.

Another man from Co Offaly also suffered gunshot wounds.
