Man abducted in tiger kidnapping

A man was abducted and locked in the boot of a car during a tiger kidnapping in Limerick.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken from a post office in Newcastlewest when he was confronted by an armed and masked man at about 8.30am on Tuesday.

A woman who also worked in the post office was contacted and ordered to take an undisclosed sum of money to a wooded area between Carraig Kerry and Athea in Limerick.

Gardai said she she did this under duress between 11am and noon.

The man was later discovered in the boot of his car - a black BMW with the registration 09 LK - in the Templegreen housing estate in Newcastlewest at 4pm.

It is understand the man was running the post office for his family.

A Garda spokesman said: "Both male and female persons involved in this incident were uninjured, however they have been through a traumatic experience."

The car and the post office have both been sealed off as crime scenes and will be subject to technical examination.

Gardai in Newscastlewest Garda Station have set up an incident room and have appealed for information on any suspicious activity in the Newcastlewest, Carraig Kerry, Athea and Templegreen areas.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw the car above between the hours of 8am and 4pm to come forward.
