Man held after cannabis stash found

Cannabis with a street value of up to 1.4 million euro has been seized by gardai.

A man in his 40s is being questioned over the haul, discovered in a car in the Carlow area.

The operation involved the Garda national drugs unit, its organised crime unit, local officers and Customs drug enforcement officers.

A Garda spokesman said: "During the course of the search cannabis herb and cannabis resin with an estimated street value of approximately 1.4 million euro (subject to analysis) was recovered.

"A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Carlow Garda Station under Section 2 - Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996."

Investigations are continuing.
