Man held after Dail petrol protest
A man has been detained by gardai after he doused himself with petrol in a protest outside the Dail.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, pulled up in a van opposite the entrance to Leinster House on Kildare Street before climbing on to the roof of the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses reported that he had covered himself in a liquid he had been carrying in a small bottle.
It is understood the man, who is from overseas, made a number of threats that he would set himself alight.
The man climbed down from the roof of the white Renault van at about 4.15pm on Thursday, a short time after beginning the protest, and was taken away by gardai.
A crew from Dublin Fire Brigade called to the scene confirmed the man had covered himself in petrol.
