Man held over apartment block fire

Detectives investigating a blaze at an apartment complex in Dublin have arrested a man.

The 27-year-old suspect is being questioned about last week's fire at Thornfield Square, in Clondalkin, during which children were pulled to safety from upstairs windows.

Investigating gardai said the man is being held at Clondalkin Garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be detained for up to 24 hours.

More than a dozen people were evacuated from the building at Watery Lane in the early hours of Tuesday last week.

A number of people, including children, had to be pulled to safety from first-floor windows, balconies and the roof of the four-storey complex.

There were no serious injuries but some residents had to be treated for smoke inhalation
