Man in 40s dies after shooting

A man has been killed in a shooting in north Dublin.

The victim, who was in his 40s, was shot on the Ballycoolin Road in Finglas at around 5pm.

He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai said a lone gunman was behind the shooting.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Ballycoolin Road has been closed from the Premier Business Park to the Cappagh Road.

It is expected to remain closed overnight.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A senior Garda source said the victim, who died at the scene, was from the Finglas area.

He said it was too soon to determine whether the man was known to gardai.
