Man in hospital after armed siege

A man in his 40s has been taken to hospital after an armed siege outside a house.

Gardai said the man suffered a head injury after a stand-off involving a man with a gun in a car at Farrenboley Park, Windy Arbour, Dundrum, south Dublin.

The incident lasted one hour 50 minutes and was brought to an end at 5.20pm.

Gardai said the injured man was taken by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital.

A Garda source has described the incident as a personal tragedy.

The man is in a serious condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

It is understood gardai had arrived on the scene at around the time a gunshot was heard.

There were no shots fired at gardai or anyone else during the incident.

It is understood the man involved has a legally held weapon and is known to be a hunter.
