Man killed in New Zealand named
An Irish man killed in a car crash in New Zealand has been named by police.
Leslie Armitage, 23, from Co Tipperary, died when the Land Rover he was driving left the road at Poolburn in Central Otago.
His 21-year-old passenger, who was also from Ireland, was injured.
Police in New Zealand said his name has not been released as family overseas are still being informed.
Sergeant Jill Woods, of Alexandra Police, said alcohol was factor in the crash that happened on Friday afternoon.
"Police have completed an examination of the scene and inquiries into the crash are continuing," she said.
"Alcohol was involved and from our initial inquiries it appears neither man was wearing a seat belt."
The pair were working as farmhands in the Ida Valley in Central Otago on the South Island.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the men's families.
