Man quizzed over death at house

A man is being questioned about the death of a 55-year-old man at a house in north Dublin.

Gardai were called to the scene of the suspected stabbing at the house in Mourne Park, Skerries, at around 6pm this evening.

It is reported investigators tried to gain access to a nearby house to speak to a man in connection with the incident, but had to negotiate for a period of time before being allowed in.

A suspect in his 20s was arrested at the nearby house and taken for questioning.

He is being detained at Balbriggan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be held for up to 24 hours before being charged or released.

The scene was sealed off and preserved for a technical examination.

The Office of the State Pathologist was also asked to attend. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out in the morning.

The results of the examination will determine whether gardai launch a full murder inquiry. The force said it is investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death.
