Man wounded during gun attack

A man has been taken to hospital tonight after being shot during a gun attack in a housing estate.

The 35-year-old victim is believed to have been wounded in the leg during the incident at Moneymore estate in Drogheda.

It is understood a lone gunman opened fire in a lane in the housing development at around 6pm. Detectives are investigating if there were any accomplices involved.

No-one else was injured in the attack.

It is not thought the victim's injuries are life threatening.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for medical treatment.

A Garda spokesman said: " The scene is currently preserved for technical examination."

Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
