Minister unveils sport project fund

A 40 million euro fund for important sports projects in Ireland has been established.

Pitches will be drained, floodlights installed, sports halls improved and dressing rooms built, sports minister Michael Ring said.

"Thanks to these grants, people will have more opportunities than ever to get active and stay active in a wide range of sports. It will also have a positive impact on job creation in construction," he said.

"The 2014 Sports Capital Programme will again provide much-needed capital funding for sporting organisations throughout the country.

"The 2012 Programme saw a record number of applications and we are acutely aware of the very high level of demand that exists for such grants."
