Nine held over dissident activity

Nine men have been arrested in connection with dissident republican activity in the Dublin area.

Eight of the arrests were made at a house in Tallaght, in the south-west of the city, on Wednesday night on suspicion of being members of an unlawful organisation.

The men, aged from their mid-20s to 40s, were taken to various Garda stations in the west of the city.

A 46-year-old man was also arrested following the discovery of ammunition and parts of explosive substances.

Gardai, attached to the Special Detective Unit and Crime and Security Section investigating dissident activity, had searched a number of containers in a yard at Cloghran, north of Dublin.

The man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and taken to Ballymun Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.
