O'Donnell: wife's cancer has gone

Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell has said his wife's cancer is "gone", less than three weeks after urging fans to pray for her.

The Donegal star said partner Majella underwent treatment for breast cancer and was making a good recovery.

"Thank God with early intervention and surgery the cancer is gone now and it is a matter of further treatment," he said.

Last month, the internationally renowned entertainer revealed Majella's diagnosis on his website.

Appealing for fans' prayers rather than cards and letters, the 51-year-old said the cancer had been detected in the early stages and the couple were hopeful for a good recovery.

Speaking to the Donegal Democrat, he said: "It can be beaten and I thank God that Majella is on the road to recovery."

O'Donnell, from Kincasslagh, said the moment he was told about the illness was one of the most most numbing and frightening experiences in his life.

But he revealed his joy that Majella, 53, was "going to be fine".

"It's just so important to me that we will be together for a long, long time - the rest of our lives," he said.

Majella has been heavily involved in her husband's music career since their marriage in 2002. They have made numerous personal appearances together throughout the years and Majella has joined her husband on stage for a duet on many occasions.
