Police hunt for on-the-run prisoner

Police are hunting an on-the-run prisoner with an extensive history of violence.

Jonathan Turley, 33, failed to return to Magilligan Prison in Co Londonderry on May 9.

Detective Inspector Mary White said he could be travelling between Northern Ireland and the Republic and warned members of the public not to approach him.

DI White said: " We know that Mr Turley has been in the Belfast and Newcastle areas since he absconded and may also be travelling between Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

"I would urge the public not to approach Mr Turley as he has an extensive history of violence and may pose a risk to them."

Anyone with information is asked to dial 999.
