Poll: Fine Gael extends support
Fine Gael has extended its support while backing for Fianna Fail continues to dwindle, according to the latest opinion poll.
Enda Kenny's party stands at 35% while Fianna Fail is at 14%, the Paddy Power/Red C survey showed - the first poll of the new year.
Labour has secured 21%, while Sinn Fein has 14% support.
The Green Party stands at 4% while Independents come in at 12%.
Eamon Gilmore continues to be the most popular candidate for Taoiseach at 37%, followed by Mr Kenny at 27% and Brian Cowen at 10%.
But in a boost for the ruling party, Brian Lenihan is regarded as the favourite as Finance Minister with 19% support, followed by Fine Gael's Richard Bruton at 18%, slightly ahead of his party colleague and current finance spokesman Michael Noonan at 16%.
Joan Burton, the spokesperson on finance in the Labour Party, receives 9% support.
