An elderly couple have been found dead in their home.

The bodies of the man and woman, both aged around 70, were discovered in their house in the Ashfield Park area of Naas, Co Kildare, at about 11.30am on Monday.

Gardai said they were not treating the deaths as suspicious and they were not looking for anyone else.

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out in a bid to determine the exact cause and time of death.

It is understood one line of investigation is that both the man and woman died by suicide.

The bodies were taken from the house to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital while the property remained sealed off for further examination.
