Probe as man shot dead in Co Cork
A man has been shot dead in a gun attack in Co Cork.
The victim, who was in his 30s, was discovered in a house at Ashbourne Court in Carrigaline at about 3pm on Wednesday.
A Garda spokesman said it is believed the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, received gunshot injuries.
His remains are still at the scene pending the arrival of the state pathologist and members of the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardai in Togher are investigating the suspicious death.
It is understood the 37-year-old is not from the area and was known to gardai.
He lived in a rented house with his partner and child in a quiet estate just minutes walk from the town centre.
His partner is said to have found his body when she returned home and ran to a neighbour's house where she called gardai and an ambulance.
Councillor John Collins said everyone in the area was surprised by the shooting.
"We've never experienced anything like this before," he said.
