Pub owned by Celtic player's dad torched in Dublin
A Dublin pub owned by the father of a Celtic player was gutted in an arson attack yesterday morning during an armed robbery in which €50,000 was stolen.
John Stokes (54), father of Celtic striker Anthony, owns the Players Lounge and lives above it.
The pub was attacked at around 2am yesterday by four men.
They tied up a bar manager after forcing him to remove €50,000 from the safe in the office.
It is understood that two separate fires were then started.
The manager escaped from the burning premises uninjured.
The pub was at the centre of high-profile controversy earlier this year.
In March a banner protesting the Queen's visit in May was "reluctantly" taken down from the front of the pub by Mr Stokes.
