Railway line closed after landslide

A landslide of rocks has forced the closure of a railway line.

Irish Rail said the incident happened at Waterford station last night.

Train passengers will be transferred on buses between Waterford and Kilkenny for Waterford/Dublin services, and between Waterford and Carrick-on-Suir for Waterford/Limerick Junction services for a number of days as work is carried out.

The operation will involve removing existing debris, assessing the area for any other loose rocks, and carrying out repairs.

"The timescale for the required works will be confirmed following a full assessment which is taking place through to Friday," said a spokesman.

"A full schedule of services will continue to operate, but with bus transfers between Waterford station and Kilkenny station, and between Waterford station and Carrick-on-Suir station.

"Service information will be updated at and on Twitter @irishrail."
