The Republic of Ireland management team of Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane have been involved in a minor collision on the M50 motorway.

The incident was confirmed on the FAI's official Twitter account this evening, they tweeted: "The ROI mgmt team were involved in collision on M50 earlier. Vehicle was rear ended in traffic. Have rtn'd to hotel & been seen by team Doc."

An FAI spokesperson has said the Ireland boss and his assistant were rear-ended on the busy motorway earlier this evening.

"It was a minor collision and nobody was hurt.  Both Roy and Martin have been looked at by the doctor in the team hotel and they are both fine.

"We will need to keep an eye on them to see if any symptoms appear within the next 48-hours - like you normally would with these things.

"But we are very confident that everything is ok. They are a bit stiff and a bit shaken but all is ok.  We will have training as normal tomorrow. "

Gardai were at the scene of the collision, which occurred between junction 6 at Blanchardstown and junction 5 at Finglas, at approximately 6pm.

O'Neill and Keane were in Cobh earlier after giving the Republic of Ireland squad a day-off as they prepare for Saturday's crucial Group D showdown with Scotland at the Aviva Stadium.
