RTE reporter Gerald Barry dies after long illness
RTE journalist Gerald Barry has died after a lengthy illness at the age of 63.
Mr Barry conducted many landmark political interviews, including one in which former Irish premier Garret FitzGerald launched his constitutional crusade for a more liberal society.
His interviews also included Charles Haughey's “go dance on someone else's grave” defence of his leadership.
A Dublin native and UCD alumnus, Mr Barry was editor and presenter of This Week on RTE Radio 1 from 1995 until January last year.
