Seize the hour urges Shatter
Justice Minister Alan Shatter has urged people to seize the hour this weekend and make the most of the only 25-hour day in the year.
Clocks go back, starting Ireland's Winter Time, which begins at 1am Greenwich Mean Time on Sunday morning.
Mr Shatter's office issued a timely reminder that "c locks, watches and all other time sensitive equipment and gizmos should be put back one hour at that time".
And he said people should use the traditional shift in time and the extra hour wisely.
"It is timely that we make the most of this annual return to where we were, and not let this extra hour pass us by unacknowledged," he said.
Mr Shatter added: "Carpe horam (seize the hour)."
Ireland's Winter Time will end at 1am Greenwich Mean Time on Sunday March 30 next year.
Officials have held discussions in the past with governments in Britain and Europe over the possibility of moving clocks forward one hour, permanently shifting the country to Central European Time.
There has been no movement on the proposal since a bill on the proposed change was abandoned in the UK parliament.
