Sinn Fein calls for MPs' speaking rights in the Dail
Sinn Fein has demanded speaking rights for its MPs in the Republic's parliament - even though they won't sit in Westminster.
New Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has been urged to implement a plan allowing Northern Ireland MPs to be allowed to speak "as of right" at Leinster House.
Former Belfast Lord Mayor Niall O Donnghaile, now a senator, argued it would make more sense than calls from Irish parties, including Fine Gael, for Sinn Fein to give up abstentionism.
"Given the context in which we find ourselves as a result of the election and the impending threat posed by Brexit, it is critical that the new Taoiseach implements the long-standing promise that MPs from the North would, as of right, have speaking rights in this Oireachtas," he said.
