Son of Sinn Fein TD stabbed at home

The son of a Sinn Fein TD has been stabbed in an attack at his home.

Aengus O Snodaigh's teenage son Fearghal was seriously injured by another man in a house in the Bluebell area of west Dublin overnight.

The TD's 18-year-old son was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to St James' Hospital for treatment to a serious wound to one of his arms.

He is expected to spend at least one day in hospital.

Gardai said the attack took place at about 12.30am at his home on the Old Naas Road.

Mr O Snodaigh has declined to comment and a Sinn Fein spokesman said the incident was a private matter.

The TD was first elected to the Dail in 2002 for Dublin South Central and is the party's spokesman on social protection, justice, equality and international affairs.

Gardai at Kilmainham are investigating the stabbing. The house where the attack took place has been preserved for a technical examination, a spokesman said.
