Teenager killed in crash on cross-border road

A teenager has died and two others were injured in an overnight car crash in Co Donegal.

The collision happened at around 4.30am at Tooban, near Burnfoot, in Co Donegal, on the main cross-border Derry to Buncrana road.

Investigating gardai said a 19-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, died after the vehicle careered off the road.

The male driver and a female passenger, both aged 19, were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

It is understood the woman is undergoing surgery and her condition is described as serious.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "The scene has been preserved and Garda forensic collision investigators are carrying out an investigation of the area."

The road was closed and diversions put in place.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses.

Separately, a 41-year-old motorcyclist died after his bike collided with a car at Ballinrush, Kilworth, Co Cork, at 4pm on Saturday.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the occupants of the car were uninjured.
