Three people have been arrested over the murder of a schoolteacher and part-time publican.

The trio - a 17-year-old youth, a man in his 20s and one in his 30s - were detained in the Galway area following planned searches.

They are being questioned at Galway Garda Station in Mill Street about the killing of John Kenny.

They are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Mr Kenny, 56, was found dead at his pub in Main Street, Oughterard, Co Galway, in the early hours of Sunday, September 25.

A post-mortem examination found he died after an assault.

A 37-year-old Romanian man was remanded in custody, charged with withholding information in connection with the ongoing investigation, on Sunday.

Gardai later arrested a fourth suspect in connection with Mr Kenny's murder.

The 29-year-old man was arrested in the Galway area and is being held at Tuam Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
