Three men have been killed on the roads during separate collisions over a 24-hour period.

In the latest tragedy, a council worker died after being struck by a truck while working on the side of N4 Dublin to Sligo road.

The Sligo County Council employee was among a group of workers carrying out maintenance on the verges of the route between Ballinafad and Castlebaldwin.

Two others involved in the collision have been taken to Sligo Regional Hospital where it is understood they are being treated for serious injuries.

Last night, a 33-year-old man travelling on a motorcycle died after colliding with an SUV on the N81 near Poulaphuca, Blessington, in Co Wicklow.

Another man on a motorcycle, aged 49, was was also involved in the crash at around 9:15pm and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 61-year-old woman driving the SUV was taken to Tallaght Hospital with minor injuries.

Separately, a 44-year-old man died after apparently falling from a horse drawn cart on Red Lane, Calary, near Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow.

No-one else was involved in the incident, which occurred at around 8:15 pm last night.

Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incidents.
