Tobacco stash seized at Dublin Port
Three tonnes of loose tobacco worth 2.5 million euro has been seized by customs officers.
Revenue officials found the stash in Dublin Port in a consignment that arrived from China.
The tobacco was described on the manifest as polyresin crafts and was concealed in large polyresin urns.
A Revenue spokesman said customs officers were assisted by the Garda Organised Crime Unit when they made the find yesterday afternoon.
"This operation is part of an ongoing strategy between Revenue and An Garda Siochana to combat the smuggling of cigarettes and tobacco into the state," he said.
"National and international investigations are ongoing."
The tobacco had a potential loss to the Exchequer of 1.5m euro.
