Two arrested after 'burglars' ram Garda patrol car

Two men have been arrested after suspected burglars rammed a Garda patrol car, injuring an officer.

The vehicle was among a number of units in pursuit of a 4x4 in Glasnevin, north Dublin, following reports of attempted break-ins at a house and a shop.

Gardai said the officer was not seriously injured.

The incident occurred following reports that two men tried but failed to get into a house in the Whitehall area before a second failed burglary at a shop in the Santry area a short time later.

At about 6am gardai signalled two men in a 4x4 to stop on Hillcrest Park, Glasnevin, before the driver rammed the Garda car on a neighbouring street.

Forty-five minutes later the vehicle was intercepted in the Ashbourne area of Co Meath and two men in their twenties were arrested.
