Two killed as bus crashes into van

Two men have been killed after a bus carrying 27 passengers crashed into a van.

The accident happened on the busy N17 at Glenafosha, about three miles from Tuam, Co Galway at about 7.45pm on Sunday.

The drivers of the van and bus died at the scene, while 10 passengers were taken to University College Hospital Galway with non-life threatening injuries.

One of the dead men was in his early 60s and the other in his 30s.

There was no one else in the van at the time of the crash.

The road was closed to allow crash scene investigators carry out an examination.

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old cyclist was killed after he was hit by a car in Co Laois.

The crash happened on the Mountmellick to Emo Road at Knightstown, Mountmellick at around 9.15am on Sunday.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was taken to Portlaoise Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed to allow crash scene investigators carry out an examination.
