Woman dies after being attacked by a number of dogs in Co Galway

A woman has died after she was attacked by a number of dogs on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Moycullen, Co Galway at approximately 3pm.

Independent.ie has learned that the woman, aged in her 60s, was attacked by a number of dogs at a home.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her remains were moved to University Hospital Galway on Sunday evening. A post mortem is now expected to take place.

Gardaí are at the scene and a full investigation is underway.

A spokeswoman confirmed: "Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Galway this afternoon."

One local said: "The woman was very well known and respected. This is a terrible tragedy for the area."
