Woman dies following collision with car

An elderly woman has died from injuries suffered in a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Dublin.

The incident happened on the Navan Road at about 8.15am.

The 39-year-old male driver of the car was arrested but has since been released from Finglas Garda station and a report is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The woman, whose name has not been released, died at Mater Hospital.

The road has been closed in both directions to facilitate a forensic collision examination of the scene but is expected to reopen at about 1.30pm.

Diversions have been put in place at the Nephin Road and Kinvarna Avenue junctions with the Navan Road.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Cabra Garda station on 01 6667400.
