Woman killed in midlands car crash

A woman in her late 40s has been killed in a car crash in the midlands, gardai said.

The victim was travelling on the Ballycumber Road, near Ferbane, Co Offaly, when the accident occurred around 4pm this afternoon.

It is believed she lost control of her car before it left the road.

She was the sole occupant of the car and no other vehicle was involved.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Gardai in Banagher are investigating. They have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The road was closed for an examination by forensic investigators.
