The Dean of Derry has spoken of the terrifying moment one of the city’s most historic buildings was damaged in a controlled explosion.
A van was found outside the deanery of St Columb's Cathedral, near the courthouse on Bishop Street, in the early hours of Saturday.
The Very Reverend Doctor William Morton said: “There are windows smashed in the dining room, the drawing room and there is some cracked glass as well on the very top floor.
“The main thing was that nobody was injured.
“Of course, the police and the Army Technical Officers, they had to do this because there was suspicion about the vehicle It's regrettable that we still have to be suspicious about vehicles that are left like that.”
Police confirmed nothing suspicious was found following the controlled explosion.
