Teen mum accused of tot cruelty is bailed
A teenage mother accused of cruelty towards a baby boy who suffered 20 bruises to his body has been granted High Court bail.
The 19-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect her son's identity, has been charged along with an ex-partner.
Both of them are accused of child cruelty and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The woman's former boyfriend faces further counts of false imprisonment and threats to kill in relation to an alleged incident in north Belfast last September.
A prosecuting lawyer told the court that of the bruising suffered by the child four of the injuries were caused by bite marks.
Other patterns of fingertip-type bruising were also detected along with injuries to the eye and a shin bone.
The child has now been put into foster care following the intervention of social services.
Crown counsel Barry Valentine said: “She blames him (her ex-partner) for most of the injuries.”
The judge ruled that the womnan+ could be granted bail to return to agreed hostel accommodation outside Belfast.
