Ards parade details are confirmed

The Orange Order has confirmed details for this year's main Twelfth celebrations in Newtownards.

A large crowd is expected for the first main Orange event in the town in five years.

Orangemen from Newtownards will be joined by brethren from Bangor, the Ards Peninsula and Holywood. Thirty-five lodges will be on parade and a large number of brethren from England and Scotland are also expected.

The parade assembles in the side streets near the Murray Street Orange Hall and at midday moves off through the town to Londonderry Park, where a religious service will be held at 3pm. The guest speaker will be Culture Minister Nelson McCausland.

A number of festival events are also planned in the run-up to the Twelfth. A senior citizens’ tea dance will be held in the Queen’s Hall on Friday, July 9 from 2pm to 5pm while a cultural concert will be held at the same venue that evening.

On Saturday, July 10, a children’s fun day will be held at the Orange Hall.
