Two men are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with the attempted murder of a man in west Belfast at the weekend.
The victim, who is understood to be in his 30s, remained in a stable condition last night after he was savagely attacked with a sword or a machete on Friday.
The vicious assault occurred in the Monagh Drive area of the Turf Lodge estate at around 6pm. It is believed the victim had been involved in an altercation with a group of men from the area.
Following the attack the man was rushed to hospital to be treated for a serious arm injury. A short time later police arrested seven men in nearby Norglen Parade.
All seven were taken in for questioning, however five were released pending further inquiries.
A 23-year-old man and another aged 24 were charged with attempted murder. They have also been charged with affray and possession of offensive weapons.
A PSNI spokesman said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.
