A right royal welcome as the Queen starts her holiday
The Queen was surrounded by a sea of tartan as she got to enjoy the start of her summer holiday yesterday in Scotland.
The sun shone as the monarch was given a right royal welcome while inspecting the 2nd Battalion Royal Highland Fusiliers at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire.
With bagpipes blaring, the Queen wore a bouclé dress with a matching jacket and hat — with her Launer patent handbag slung over her forearm as she checked the lines.
While the Queen’s holiday only officially started yesterday, the monarch has spent most of the last two weeks at another house on the Balmoral estate. The main castle was open to the public during that time — part of an effort to drive down running costs.
