Arrest in child exploitation probe

Detectives investigating allegations of child sexual exploitation have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of rape and supplying drugs.

Public protection officers from West Midlands Police detained the suspect at an address in Wellington Street, Hillfields, Coventry, at 6am today.

Officers also arrested a second man, aged 24, at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Dean Young said: "Today's arrest follows excellent work by local police officers and partners in Coventry to identify and target those suspected of being involved with child sexual exploitation.

"I would like to reassure the community that the investigation continues and further arrests will follow.

"Child sexual exploitation affects all communities and it remains a top priority for us - nothing is more important in policing than protecting vulnerable people."
